Disco Sucks... 1979.

In Chicago, 28 years ago today... Disco Demolition Night happened. In case you do not know about this historic event... it was a promotional event that took place at the original Comiskey Park. It was held during a scheduled doubleheader between the White Sox and the Detroit Tigers.

What happened? They collected a bunch of Disco record and blew them up. Then people ran on the field (total chaos) and tore it up... so much destruction that the White Sox had to forfeit the second game.

I wish I was there.

Hey, I LOVE disco! Just not the crappy commercial bs that they were most likely burning. Everytime I think of the demolition it makes me sad, but a little part of me kind of wishes I was there wearing a Kiss t-shirt.

The only tragedy is that the Sox didn't forfeit BOTH games.

Why don't they do fun things like that anymore???

I think you need to clear this type of subject matter with the Club before you post ;-)

I LOVE disco too, just like Classy.

Disco Sucks was a meathead "movement" that had some pretty ugly racist and homophobic aspects to it. Disco (moreso in NY than in Chicago) started out as Black and gay club music. The Disco Sucks crowd were mostly white male rock fans. The country was going to hell in the 70s, and these fools were obsessed with beligerently promoting the very, very, very wrong notion that Foghat and Golden Earring were better than The Hues Corporation and LaBelle. Madness!

Wasn't there room for more than one style of music in the 70s?
